An MRI, or magnetic resonance imaging, scanner is used to view the inside of the body using magnetic fields and radio waves instead of radiation. MRI scans provide our Hawaii patients with images of abnormalities that might otherwise be obscured by bone tissue using other imaging methods.
MRI scanners are sometimes known for giving patients a “closed-in” feeling. Fortunately, our clinic features the latest technology and only high-field open MRI in Hawaii. The larger patient opening allows patients to stay calm and comfortable during their test. Open MRI scanners do not confine patients like traditional MRI scanners. This allows us to provide a superior level of care to our Honolulu-area patients without sacrificing image quality.
Contact Queens Imaging Pearlridge today for more information on the benefits of open MRI scanners.
MRI scans are the most sensitive exam available for diagnosing a variety of disorders, including brain tumors, disorders of the eye and inner ear, diseased pituitary glands, strokes, and chronic nervous system disorders such as multiple sclerosis. MRI scans are also excellent for showing details in areas of very fine soft-tissue, such as in the knee or shoulder.
In many cases, an MRI scan will eliminate the need for riskier procedures, such as a biopsy or exploratory surgery. Magnetic resonance imaging can also be performed in less than an hour at our facility near Honolulu, usually taking between 30 and 45 minutes.
MRI scans produce more detailed images than CT scans, but undergoing an MRI scan also often means having to lie perfectly still inside a narrow, enclosed tube — an experience that many find unpleasant. However, at Queens Imaging Pearlridge, we are able to take much of the uneasiness out of the magnetic resonance imaging experience by having an open MRI scanner with the largest patient opening in Hawaii. Honolulu patients have found open MRI scans are much less claustrophobic than the traditional enclosed method.
Open MRI exams are excellent for pediatric, elderly, claustrophobic, or obese patients, as well as those who do not want or cannot be scanned on other systems.
We are excited about the introduction of the Espree 1.5T Open MRI at our Pearlridge facility, located outside of the Honolulu area. The Espree is the only high-field open MRI in Hawaii which provides the largest patient opening, similar to a CT scanner, designed to eliminate claustrophobia among patients and thereby accommodating a larger percentage of patients. The open MRI scanner helps patients to relax during the exam by offering additional space between the patient and the magnet. In addition, the open MRI scanner employs a shorter-than-usual magnet, most exams can be performed with the patient’s head clear of the machine. The result is all the benefits of an MRI scan, such as detailed images of the area to be studied, with none of the disadvantages or discomfort of traditional MRIs.
For an open MRI scan with the most advanced technology available, Queens Imaging Pearlridge is the obvious choice. We provide each patient with a high level of personalized service and the latest in open MRI technology, making magnetic resonance imaging as comfortable as possible for all our Honolulu-area patients.
